Monmouth Festival 2013 July 26th - August 3rd
Monmouth’s fabulous free independent music festival, Monmouth Festival / Gŵyl Trefynwy, is a nine-day free music event and one of the biggest and best in Europe – a celebration of the town and its community, and a chance to see the best of local and national musicians from rock, classical, pop, folk, jazz, ska, punk, world music and beyond. Despite the recession, doom and gloom, and abundance of failing businesses, Monmouth Festival is still here, in it's 31st year, still lighting up the Wye Valley with sounds from around the world, and bring the spotlight down to shine on South Wales. So what is it that keeps the biggest free music festival in Europe going and growing? You do. The people that attend, that support the festival, and the huge number of volunteers that make the continuation of this cultural UK event one of community spirit and donation.
There’s fun to be had for all the family too on Carnival day, with stalls, workshops, street entertainers, a funfair, and other entertainment – this year Carnival Sunday is on Sunday 28 July. Music events take place nightly on the main open-air stage in Blestium Street car park, as well as at St Mary’s Church, and Three Horseshoes pub. With such a spread of venues and events, it should come as no surprise that this historic little town is able to rise above competition from the rest of the UK host the most succesful free music festival in South Wales.
Monmouth loves music – and has a festival and a community to be proud of, so join us, and let’s celebrate.
