Now in its 27th year, the Monmouth Festival is one of the largest free music festivals in the UK and attracts up to 50,000 people each year. It is run by volunteers and is almost entirely funded by sponsorship, advertising, fundraising events, and generous donations by the public. So please dig deep this year and give all you can to our bucket collectors while you are watching these great bands!

This year, we think it will be our best ever music festival! We have a huge variety of music for all tastes through the nine day festival, including rockabilly, jive, rock, blues, classical, jazz, country, disco, big band...

Sure to be a massive night will be Saturday 25th July when we have The Pigeon Detectives!

The Pigeon Detectives broke onto the UK music scene in 2006 with their first top 40 hit 'I Found Out.' Influenced by the likes of the Rolling Stones, The Shangri-Las, The Beatles and The Strokes the band built up a strong fanbase resulting in their debut album 'Wait For Me' going platinum selling 350,000 copies in the UK along the way. The album featured the crowd favourites I'm Not Sorry and Take Her Back.

In early 2008 the band shacked up at Monnow Valley Studios in Monmouth to record their second album 'Emergency' with Blur producer Stephen Street. The album spawned the hit single 'This Is An Emergency' and helped the band's continued rise.

In the summer of 2008 the band played huge gigs on the Other Stage at Glastonbury and at V Festival. After a successful tour of the USA the band finished their 2nd album campaign playing a massive UK tour including their own headlining show at the 8,000 capacity Alexandra Palace venue in London.

The Pigeon Detectives are currently writing for their 3rd album due in 2010.

On the Sunday, the festival pays homage to Queen (who wrote and recorded some of their biggest hits in Monmouth) with one of the UK's top Queen tribute bands, Rhapsody - Is This The Real Queen, playing the main stage.

Sure to be an amazing night out will be Friday 31st July with afro-and-white-jumpsuit-wearing band, Uncle Funk, grooving through an amazing set of 70s hits. And on the final night, we have classic rock legends, The Hamsters who are considered by many to be the UK's leading interpreters of the music of Jimi Hendrix and ZZ Top.

The festival events take place not only at Blestium car park (opposite Waitrose) but also at the Three Horseshoes and St Mary's Church. Please download our brochure for the full schedule.
